Abstract: A system includes a drive system having one or more traction motors coupled in driving relationship to a plurality of wheels of a vehicle system. The traction motors are configured to provide both motive power for the vehicle system in a propel mode of operation and retarding effort to brake the vehicle system in a braking mode of operation. The system further includes a parking brake for maintaining a static position of the vehicle system when in an engaged state, and a controller configured to detect when the parking brake is in the engaged state. The controller is further configured to control at least one of the one or more traction motors to provide a braking effort to resist movement of the vehicle system when the parking brake is in the engaged state.

Abstract: Methods of assessing driver behavior include monitoring vehicle systems and driver monitoring systems to accommodate for a slow reaction time, attention lapse and/or alertness of a driver. When it is determined that a driver is drowsy, for example, the response system may modify the operation of one or more vehicle systems. The response system can modify the control of two or more systems simultaneously in response to driver behavior.

Abstract: Described herein is a vehicle system configured to identify and mitigate inappropriate driving behavior. In some embodiments, the vehicle system may receive input information from one or more input sensors. The vehicle system may identify driving behaviors related to a vehicle from the received input. The vehicle system may determine whether the driving behaviors are inappropriate in light of one or more conditions affecting the vehicle. Upon identifying inappropriate behavior, the vehicle system may generate a set of corrective actions capable of being executed to mitigate the inappropriate driving behavior.

Abstract: A target control value of the brake fluid pressure generated in dependence on the braking operation amount is set by using a first coefficient determined in dependence on the vehicle speed in an early phase of a braking operation performed by a vehicle operator and a second coefficient determined in dependence on the braking operation amount and the vehicle speed during a later braking action. The increase in the braking force for the buildup control can be restrained in an early phase of the braking operation so that the onset of deceleration in an early phase of the braking action for the given braking operation can be made gradual in a manner corresponding to the vehicle speed while a favorable buildup control is achieved by increasing the deceleration as the vehicle speed decreases in the course of the braking action.
