The metallic composite includes a Zr based alloy-A composite. A includes at least one selected from a group consisting of W, Mo, Ni, Cr, stainless steel, WC, TiC, SiC, ZrC and ZrO2. Based on the total volume of the Zr based alloy-A composite, the content of A is about 30% to about 70% by volume. A method for preparing the metal-ceramic composite is also provided.

In some examples, a technique for forming a partially densified preform including ceramic particles may include mixing a densifying agent with metal oxide particles or metal oxide precursor to form a blended densifying agent, infiltrating the blended densifying agent in to a porous preform, pyrolyzing the infiltrated preform to convert the densifying agent to carbon and form a partially densified preform, and heat treating the partially densified preform to react at least some of the carbon with the metal oxide particles to form ceramic particles. Composite materials formed from porous preforms in which a blended densifying agent is disposed in pores of the preform are also described.

A thickness of the insulating substrate is 25 to 100 μm, and a diameter of the through hole is 20 to 100 μm. The insulating substrate includes a main body part and exposed regions exposed to the through holes and is composed an alumina sintered body. A relative density of the alumina sintered body is 99.5 percent or higher. The alumina sintered body has a purity of 99.9 percent or higher, and has an average grain size of 3 to 6 μm in said main body part. Alumina grains are plate-shaped in the exposed region and the plate-shaped alumina grains have an average length of 8 to 25 μm.
