Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an antimicrobial coating on a surface, a method for preparing and uses of the same. In particular it relates to a process for preparing an antimicrobial coating on a surface, the process comprising the steps of: a) providing a surface; b) coating a metal oxide or a metal hydroxide on the surface in the presence of a solvent in a hydrothermal synthesis step to form a coated surface having a plurality of nanostructures; c) optionally drying the coated surface, wherein said nanostructure is preferably in nanopillar structure. The coating of the present application exhibits excellent antimicrobial activity against different types of microorganism, such as bacteria and yeast. The nanostructures are able to exert stress to the microorganism, and therefore controlling or killing them.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides pre-treatment compositions and related methods. As such, a pre-treatment coating composition can include an evaporable liquid vehicle and a pre-treatment coating matrix. The pre-treatment coating matrix can include from 5 wt % to 40 wt % multivalent metal salt, and from 5 wt % to 20 wt % polyurethane. The composition can further include from 10 wt % to 50 wt % high Tg latex having a Tg greater than 80° C., from 0.5 wt % to 20 wt % water soluble binder, and from 3 wt % to 20 wt % wax having a melting point greater than 120° C. The weight percentages of the pre-treatment coating matrix exclude the evaporable liquid vehicle content, and the weight ratio of the high Tg latex to polyurethane is from 1:1 to 5:1.

Abstract: A pelletized thermoplastic road marking material is provided in which glass dust rather than calcium carbonate is used as the filler. Such glass dust can account for up to 55 weight % of the final formulation. Glass dust is a readily available and inexpensive byproduct of glass manufacturing which otherwise has little or no commercial value. Use of the glass dust is effective if the thermoplastic composition is prepared in pelletized form and performs comparably to a thermoplastic composition having calcium carbonate filler, while producing a higher yield.

Abstract: An article has a substrate and a pattern of a dry silver nanoparticle-containing composition comprising at least 20 weight % of one or more (a) polymers, that are cellulosic polymers; (d) silver nanoparticles having a mean particle size of 25-750 nm and present in an amount of 0.1-400 weight %, based on the total weight of the one or more (a) polymers; and (e) carbon black in an amount of 5-50 weight %, based on the total weight of the one or more (a) polymers. Such patterns can have multiple fine lines of any geometric arrangement. The article can have multiple patterns of this type, and each pattern can be electrolessly plated with a suitable metal such as copper to provide electrically-conductive product articles.

Abstract: A nanowire heating and insulating element that includes a first layer having overlapping nanowires dispersed therein and a second layer that is two conductive portions spaced apart on either side of the first layer. Electrical potential is applied to the two conductive portions such that electricity flows through the nanowires of the first layer to heat the heating element. In addition, the heating element may be applied to existing surfaces of a room having a multiple sensor pack therein which is in wireless communication with multiple devices, or Adaptors. One or more of the adaptors supply electrical potential for the heating element and is in wireless communication with a controller which is configured to monitor usage of the Adaptors and control the Adaptors as needed to respond to usage events or environmental conditions based at least in part on readings from the sensor pack.
