摘要: Slag from a pool of molten slag floating on molten metal in a plasma arc treatment chamber is removed by providing a slag container located inside the chamber which has a slag intake pipe extending from a bottom of the container downwardly into the slag pool. A vacuum line is connected to the top of the container and a vacuum source. When a vacuum is applied to the inside of the container, the pressure prevailing in the chamber pushes the slag from the pool through the intake pipe into the container. When the container becomes filled with molten slag, the latter enters a section of the line communicating the top of the container with the vacuum source. As the slag enters the pipe section, it is cooled and solidified to prevent further slag flow into or gas (air) flow through the vacuum line so that the container can be lifted out of the chamber while the slag in the container is still in its molten state without causing slag spillage.

摘要: A method for forming a desired pattern of a material of conductive or non-conductive type on a variety of substrates. It is based on the use of a pen which essentially consists of a refractory tip wetted with the material in the molten state. The pen preferably consists of a pointed tungsten tip attached to the top of a V-shaped tungsten heater, forming a heater assembly. The tip and the heater top portion are roughened at the vicinity of the welding point. In turn, the ends of the V-shaped heater are welded to the pins of a 3-lead TO-5 package base. The pen is incorporated in an apparatus adapted to the direct writing technique. To that end, the pen is attached to a supporting device capable of movements in the X, Y and Z directions, while the substrate is placed on an X-Y stage for adequate X, Y and Z relative movements therebetween. The two pins of the pen are connected to a power supply to resistively heat the heater. When the welding point of the tip/heater assembly reaches the melting point of the material to be deposited, it is dipped in a crucible containing the material in the molten state. The welding point nucleates a minute drop of the liquid material, thus forming a reservoir. A thin film of the liquid material flows from the reservoir and wets the tip. Finally, the wetted tip is gently brought into contact with the substrate and deposition of the material takes place to produce the desired pattern.

摘要: According to the present invention, there is provided a direct current electric furnace for melting metal capable of melting scraps rapidly and also capable of diminishing cold and hot spots formed on the furnace wall, wherein the direct current electric furnace is provided with a single top electrode, a plurality of furnace bottom electrodes, or a plurality of electrode units obtained by dividing a multitude of furnace bottom electrodes of a small diameter into plural units, and electric current controlling thyristor circuits for controlling each individually electric currents flowing through the plural furnace bottom electrodes or electrode units. The electric current controlling thyristor circuits may be substituted by thyristor circuits for controlling electric currents for each of plural groups obtained by dividing the above plural furnace bottom electrodes or the above many furnace bottom electrodes or the above plural electrode units into the plural groups.

摘要: A reactor for incinerating and melting materials such as waste and/or toxic materials has a containment housing inside of which an upright, open-ended drum is rotatably mounted. The drum is lined with refractory, forms a central discharge opening for the removal of incinerated and melted materials, and has an upright, outer wall. Incineration heat is supplied by a plasma torch which is mounted to the containment housing and extends into the drum. A steel throat ring concentric with the discharge opening is connected with the exterior of the drum; e.g. an outer drum wall, by grounding arms which extend non-radially; e.g. tangentially from a periphery of the throat ring to the inside surface of the drum wall, so that electric discharge from the torch to the upwardly oriented surfaces of the throat ring and the grounding arms is possible. The throat ring and the grounding arms are otherwise embedded in insulating refractory material carried by a rotating base plate of the drum which has a radially open, horizontally disposed slit that extends radially from a periphery of the base plate to the vicinity of the discharge opening. Several cooling water nozzles are mounted to the containment housing opposite the slit for directing cooling water jets radially into the slit. The rotation of the drum generates centrifugal forces which aid in the removal of the cooling water from the slit.

摘要: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus by means of which a material is vaporized in a treatment chamber by means of an electron beam. Due to controlling the inhomogenity of power distribution over the working area of the beam it becomes possible to prevent local overheating of the target material and thus of a deformation of the target surface. This is realized by oscillating the beam around its working point. The amplitude of the oscillation is, thereby, of almost a few beam diameters and this oscillation is superimposed on the momentarily working position of the beam on the target.
