The present invention provides a flexible heat reflective radiant barrier that may be conveniently installed on a structure without the need to simultaneously replace rigid construction decking panels. The flexible heat reflective radiant barrier is for use as part of the outer-protective water-shedding materials of a structure or building, such as underneath shingles, tiles, or siding. At least one heat reflective layer is adhered to at least one layer of a felt roofing material. The flexible heat reflective radiant barrier may be disposed in rolls for case of storage and handling. The rolls are easily applied to rigid construction decking panel substrates, such as plywood or oriented strand board construction sheets of structural 2×4, 2×6 side walls or the like, as a part of the exterior water-shedding material.

A process for producing hydrophobic cotton fabric useful as material for forming a wide variety of useful articles. The process includes the steps of (1) bleaching the cotton fabric with a suitable optical whitener; (2) affixing the fabric to a conveying machine; (3) applying approximately 7 lbs. of water resistance substance for each approximately 100 lbs. of fabric by conveying the fabric through a pad bath; (4) conveying the fabric through a tenter frame machine having a heating chamber set a approximately 340° F.; (4) conveying the treated fabric through the heating chamber at a speed of approximately 17 yards per minute; (5) repeating step 4 a second time to effect curing of the chemicals thereby resulting in a water-resistant cotton fabric. Alternate methods are disclosed for treating fabric with various antimicrobial, antifungal, anti-odor and/or anti-stain substances. Fabric produced according to the above-referenced process is suitable for use in a wide variety of useful articles such as undergarments for those suffering from incontinence, feminine shields, bedding products such as mattress pads and covers, apparel such as t-shirts, lingerie, and medical gowns.

An electrical substrate material is presented comprising a thermosetting matrix which includes a polybutadiene or polyisoprene resin, an unsaturated butadiene- or isoprene-containing polymer and an ethylene propylene rubber; a particulate filler and, a fabric. Preferred ethylene propylene rubbers are ethylene propylene copolymers and ethylene propylene diene terpolymer rubbers wherein the diene is dicyclopentadiene. The ethylene propylene rubber is present in an amount of up to about 20 wt % with respect to the resin, preferably in an amount of about 1 to about 7 wt %, more preferably about 5 wt %. The presence of the ethylene propylene rubber enhances the dielectric strength of the resulting electrical substrate material, while other electrical, chemical, and mechanical properties of the material are not adversely effected.

An electrical substrate material is presented comprising a thermosetting matrix of polybutadiene or polyisoprene in an amount of 25 to 50 volume %; a woven glass fabric in an amount of 10 to 40 volume %; a particulate, preferably ceramic filler, in an amount of from 5 to 60 volume %; and a flame retardant. Importantly, the composition comprises only a single resin, i.e., polybutadiene or polyisoprene. A peroxide cure initiator and/or crosslinking agent may optionally be added. The presence of a very high surface area particulate filler, preferably fumed silica, is also preferred, in that its presence results in a prepreg which has very little tackiness and can therefore be easily handled by operators. This low tackiness feature allows for the use of conventional automated layup processing, including foil cladding, using one or more known roll laminators. While the prepreg of this invention is tack-free enough to be handled relatively easily by hand, it is also tacky enough to be tacked to itself using a roll laminator (e.g., nip roller) at room temperature. The composition of this invention is particularly well suited for making electrical circuit substrates for microwave and digital circuits, typically in the form of the thermosetting composition being laminated onto one or both opposed surfaces to a metal conductive foil such as copper.

There is provided an electrical laminate comprising a cured assemblage of a plurality of glass fiber type substrates impregnated with a curable resin composition containing (a) a halogenated bisphenol type unsaturated polyester resin and (b) an epoxy acrylate resin which may optionally be halogen-containing. This laminate features high dimensional stability, improved through-hole reliability, and excellent mechanical strength. A continuous production method for laminates is also described.

Disclosed is a composition comprising about 5 to about 95 phr of a polyepoxide or other resinous component, about 20 to about 90% of an aprotic solvent, about 5 to about 95 phr of a polyimide having sufficient amic acid functionality to be soluble in the solvent, and sufficient water to hydrolyze the polyimide. A laminate is made from the composition by heating it until the amic acid functionality is substantially eliminated, then impregnating a fibrous substrate with the composition, heating the impregnated substrate to evaporate the solvent and B-stage the composition and form a prepreg, forming a stack of the prepregs, and heating and pressing the stack of prepregs to cure the composition. A wire enamel can also be made from the composition.
