摘要: Metallic stents which have a randomly oriented microstructure, and possess quasi-isotropic mechanical and physical properties are disclosed. The novel stents can be “tailor-made” to mimic the geometry of the blood vessel(s) at the deployment site and can be designed to treat coronary artery disease at the point where blood vessels branch. The metallic materials of choice are ductile, corrosion resistant and exhibit little crystallographic texture. The novel stents can be produced from a metallic precursor which is quasi-isotropic and exhibits little texture by processing means, such as machining, which do not reintroduce texture. Alternatively, quasi-isotropic and low texture stents are achieved by suitable post-processing of conventionally fabricated stent materials.

摘要: Composite current collectors containing coatings of metals, alloys or compounds, selected from the group of Zn, Cd, Hg, Ga, In, Tl, Sn, Pb, As, Sb, Bi and Se on non-metallic, non-conductive or poorly-conductive substrates are disclosed. The composite current collectors can be used in electrochemical cells particularly sealed cells requiring a long storage life. Selected metals, metal alloys or metal compounds are applied to polymer or ceramic substrates by vacuum deposition techniques, extrusion, conductive paints (dispersed as particles in a suitable paint), electroless deposition, cementation; or after suitable metallization by galvanic means (electrodeposition or electrophoresis). Metal compound coatings are reduced to their respective metals by chemical or galvanic means. The current collectors described are particular suitable for use in sealed primary or rechargeable galvanic cells containing mercury-free and lead-free alkaline zinc electrodes.

摘要: A rechargeable manganese dioxide/zinc cell is provided, where the cell has high capacity, high volumetric and gravimetric energy densities, high cycle life, and is capable of continued charge-discharge cycles following an overdischarge. The cell has an aqueous electrolyte, with the usual solute of potassium hydroxide, but the solute may also be a mixture of zinc chloride and ammonium chloride. The electrode balance as determined by the ration of the theoretical discharge capacity of the zinc and the theoretical one electron discharge capacity of the manganese dioxide ranges from greater than 65% up to 110%. On the 15th discharge, a cell of the present invention will deliver a discharge capacity of at least 20% of the discharge capacity delivered on the first discharge. A cell according to the present invention is capable of continued charge-discharge cycles after overdischarge or voltage reversal.
