The application of carbon fluoride chloride in dry lubricant compositions is disclosed. The material offers a substantial improvement in lubricating properties over prior art carbon fluoride dry lubricants.The improved lubricant is comprised of carbon fluoride chloride of the general formula (C.sub.y F.sub.x Cl.sub.z).sub.n wherein y is 1 or 2, x is greater than 0 to 1.2, z is 0.1 and n defines an infinitely large two dimensional array of repeating units occurring in this molecule of high molecular weight. The resulting lubricant has improved lubricating properties over graphite, MoS.sub.2 and carbon monofluoride.

The coating system (20) includes at least one hard friction reducing coating deposited as an outermost layer (9) which exhibits droplets (10) at its surface. The outermost layer (9) includes molybdenum copper nitride and/or molybdenum nitride and copper nitride, and at least some of the droplets (10) consist mainly of copper. Preferably most of the largest droplets (10) consist mainly of copper.

Provided is a sliding member comprising: a steel back metal layer; and a sliding layer including a porous sintered layer and a resin composition. The porous sintered layer includes Fe or Fe alloy granules and a Ni—P alloy part functioning as a binder for binding the Fe or Fe alloy granules with one another and/or for binding the Fe or Fe alloy granules with the steel back metal layer. The steel back metal layer is made of a carbon steel including 0.05 to 0.3 mass % of carbon, and includes: a non-austenite-containing portion having a structure of a ferrite phase and perlite formed in a central portion in a thickness direction of the steel back metal layer; and an austenite-containing portion having a structure of a ferrite phase, perlite and an austenite phase formed in a surface portion of the steel back metal layer facing the sliding layer.

Compositions for lubricants and methods for producing the same using spherical bismuth powder and spherical copper powder particles are disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the lubricant includes a base oil, a grease, a copper powder, comprising at least one spherical particle, and a bismuth powder, comprising at least one spherical particle. The lubricant can be used as an engine oil, a gear oil, a grease lubricant, or a spray lubricant. When applying the lubricant to an internal combustible engine, the heat and pressure within the engine compresses the lubricant to infuse the copper and bismuth powder particles to the internal surface of the engine. When used in internal combustible engines, the disclosed lubricants deliver outstanding wear resistance, improve gas mileage, extend interval times needed for oil changes, and also reduce engine exhaust emission.

A reversible thermal thickening grease for microelectronic packages, in which the grease contains filler particles; at least one polymer; and a binder; in which the filler particles are dispersed within the binder, in which one or more segments of the at least one polymer may be attached to the filler particles prior to dispersion in the binder, and in which the polymer collapses at temperatures below a Theta temperature and swells at temperatures above a Theta temperature. During the operation of a microelectronic package, grease pump-out and air proliferation are minimized with use of the reversible thermal thickening grease, while grease fluidity is retained under repetitive thermal stresses.
