Abstract:
A diode is integrated on a semiconductor chip having anode and cathode surfaces opposite to each other. The diode comprises a cathode region extending inwardly from the cathode surface, a drift region extending between the anode surface and the cathode region, and a plurality of anode regions extending from the anode surface in the drift region. The diode further comprises a cathode electrode coupled with the cathode region, and an anode electrode that contacts one or more contacted anode regions of said anode regions and is electrically insulated from one or more floating anode regions of the anode regions. The diode is configured so that charge carriers are injected from the floating anode regions into the drift region in response to applying of a control voltage exceeding a threshold voltage.
Abstract:
A method controls a power factor correction converter that includes a boost inductor and a switch. The method generates a sense signal representing a rectified AC input voltage or an inductor current through the boost inductor, turns on the switch in response to determining, based on the sense signal, a zero current condition through the boost inductor, turns off the switch after an on-time interval, generates a feedback signal based on an output voltage of the converter, and compares the feedback signal with a threshold. If the feedback signal is smaller than the threshold, the method generates a command signal, representing a phase domain including 0 and π, based on the feedback signal and the power threshold, and keeps the switch off when a phase of the input rectified AC voltage or of the inductor current is in the phase domain even if the zero current condition has been determined.
Abstract:
A FIR transmit architecture uses multiple driver divisions to allow signals with different delays to be summed into the output signal by the driver itself. The architecture includes a first multiplexer, a plurality of delay cells, a plurality of sign blocks, a switch block, a second multiplexer, and a plurality of drivers.
Abstract:
A stack of chips is formed by a first integrated-circuit chip and a second integrated-circuit chip. The chips have opposing faces which are separated from each other by an interposed spacer. The spacer is fastened by adhesion to only one of the opposing faces. The opposing faces are fastened to each other by a local adhesive which is separate from spacer.
Abstract:
An intra-board chip-to-chip optical communications system has a high bit rate and high data throughput based on the use of a silicon photonic interposer. The system includes a multi-substrate electro-optical structure for communications with CMOS and/or BiCMOS IC chips of a PCB. The structure includes a multi-chip module primary substrate mounted over the supporting PCB. The multi-chip module primary substrate implements high frequency electrical interconnections between transceiver circuit chips, mounted on the silicon photonic interposer, and the IC chips.
Abstract:
An optoelectronic device for detecting electromagnetic radiation includes a body of semiconductor material. A first region and a second region that form a junction are provided within the body. A recess extends into the body and is delimited by side arranged transverse to a main surface of the body. The junction is exposed by the sidewall to coupled electromagnetic radiation received in the recess into a photodiode formed by the junction.
Abstract:
A method of operating a speaker system including a speaker coupled to an amplifier, and a dedicated digital speaker protection circuit includes turning on the amplifier in a mute mode, after a first delay period, issuing a play command to the amplifier to place the amplifier in a play mode, but without an input signal during a second delay period, and performing a speaker offset detection during the second delay period, wherein, if there is an offset, then the amplifier is forced back into the mute mode, and if there is no offset, then the amplifier is allowed to continue to operate in the play mode. The method also includes issuing a speaker protection control signal or command if an offset is detected.
Abstract:
A switching controller of a poly-phase electric motor may generate, in a fully digital manner, a replica of the phase current and/or of the phase (star) voltage of one or more windings of the motor. The switching controller may use digital signals already available for driving the motor to reconstruct a replica of the phase current or the phase voltage, and thereby avoid the need for dedicated analog components for phase current or phase voltage determination.
Abstract:
A method for the automatic design of an electronic circuit includes operations for evaluation of the thermal effects in the electronic circuit. The method generates a layout of the electronic circuit. Abstract data at the substrate level associated to the layout of the electronic circuit is then generated. A grid of partitioning is generated with respect to a view regarding the aforesaid abstract into meshes and nodes. The grid is applied to the substrate. On the basis of the grid (TG), a list of nodes or netlist representing a thermal network that represents the thermal behavior of the substrate or of its portions or elements is extracted. The netlist is useful in simulation operations, in particular of a SPICE type, for making an evaluation of thermal effects in the electronic circuit.
