Abstract:
A composition comprising: (1) a susceptor of magnetically coupled radio frequency energy comprising a non-magnetic particulate substrate, e.g., an electrically insulative material in particulate form, bearing a thin magnetic coating, e.g., a magnetic inorganic film, and (2) a matrix that is substantially non-reflective of radio frequency energy, e.g., silicone rubber, which matrix can be heated upon the composition's being subjected to magnetically coupled radio frequency energy. It has been discovered that thin magnetic coatings on non-magnetic particles provide energy transfer with induction heaters equal to or better than many commonly used solid susceptor particles. It has also been discovered that the temperature of the composition of this invention can be regulated so as not to exceed a predetermined temperature.
Abstract:
The invention provides inherently tacky, polymeric, organic, solvent-insoluble, solvent dispersible, elastomeric, pressure sensitive adhesive microspheres having pendant hydrophilic polymeric or oligomeric moieties having a degree of polymerization greater than or equal to 2. The microspheres which are sterically stabilized can offer enhanced stability against coagulation caused by alkali, alkali salts, polyelectrolytes and repeated freeze/thaw cycles. The present invention also provides pressure-sensitive adhesives comprising these microspheres including aerosol spray PSAs, coated sheet materials prepared therefrom, and method of making the microspheres.
Abstract:
Disclosed are degradable materials which include a nontoxic hydrolytically degradable polymer and nontoxic modifier, wherein the modifier is compatible with the polymer and the modifier is nonvolatile and nonfugitive. Also disclosed are processes for forming the various degradable materials, which include films, molded products, laminates, foams, powders, nonwovens, adhesives and coatings. The disclosed materials and processes are particularly useful for the production of commercial and consumer products in high volumes which are suitable for recycling after use or which are discarded into the environment in large volumes.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an adhesive sheet that is extensible and conformable. The sheet comprises a non-creped flatback paper backing comprising cellulosic fibers and an elastomeric saturant and having an elongation at break of at least 8%; and an adhesive coating on at least a portion of at least one major surface of said backing. No mechanical means is used to generate extensibility or conformability in the backing of the adhesive sheet of the invention. The adhesive sheet combines all the advantages of a smooth flatback tape and the extensibility and conformability of a creped or microcreped tape.
Abstract:
An improved hot melt adhesive with low self-adhesion. The adhesive is useful for disposable articles and employs a S-EB-S block copolymer. The adhesive does not require a release liner and has superior stay-in-place properties.
Abstract:
Reworkable adhesive that has a high shear strength through a range of use temperatures but which has a low strength and is reworkable at a suitable processing temperature.
Abstract:
A method of binding book blocks to form books is disclosed. The method involves applying an aqueous composition to the spine area of a book block and removing the volatile components of the composition. The composition comprises (1) an aqueous vehicle, a film-forming polymeric resin, and a polyurethane resin or (2) an aqueous polyurethane dispersion or emulsion. The composition may also include an alkaline component. In another embodiment, the composition comprises a mixture of an aqueous, film-forming polymeric latex, an alkaline component to adjust the pH the latex to that of an aqueous polyurethane dispersion, and the aqueous polyurethane dispersion.
Abstract:
An adhesive composition for use in the mounting of electronic parts on a printed circuit board is disclosed. The composition comprises a photosetting and thermosetting resin ingredient and a long-chain saturated fatty acid amide. Also disclosed is a method for mounting electronic parts on a printed circuit board by the use of such an adhesive composition.
Abstract:
In the production of a pressure sensitive adhesive tape comprising the steps of compounding and applying a hot melt adhesive composition to a tape backing, and allowing the hot melt adhesive to cool and thereby solidify to a pressure sensitive adhesive coating on said tape, the improvement which comprises incorporating into the hot melt adhesive composition a blowing agent which does not decompose under the conditions of compounding and application of the hot melt adhesive composition, and thereafter decomposing the blowing agent, thereby to impart to the hot melt coating a cellular structure.
Abstract:
A web of adhesive, especially a normally tacky and pressure-sensitive adhesive, is rendered electrically conductive by imparting a pattern of electrically conductive elements that extend from slightly beyond one face of the web to slightly beyond the other face of the web. In a preferred embodiment, the adhesive web is sandwiched between release liners formed of uniaxially oriented film and a conductive thread stitched through both the liners and the adhesive web. The liners can be removed, tearing along the stitch lines, to create an electrically conductive adhesive web.
