摘要: A resin, method of resin infusion, and parts formed thereby are disclosed. The method is particularly useful in greatly strengthening appearance prototypes such as those formed on powder bed three-dimensional printers to make them suitable for handling and testing in a host of environments. The method comprises heating the liquid resin to lower its viscosity, infusing a porous form with the heated resin and curing the infused resin to form the part. The liquid resin is typically heated from about 35° C. to about 80° C. and most preferably is under vacuum with the porous form submerged therein to facilitate infusion. Excess resin is removed from the porous form and reusable for subsequent infusion. The resin-infused form is then cured, typically by heating in the range of 100° C. to 200° C. Resulting parts may be very hard and have very high compressive strengths, even exceeding 30,000 psi.

摘要: A method for manufacturing a composite separator plate for a fuel cell stack. The method includes preparing expanded graphite into particles, and dispersing the expanded graphite particles into a polymeric resin. The resin, including the graphite particles, is compression molded to form the separator plate. In one embodiment, the expanded graphite is dispersed into the polymeric resin by mixing it in to the resin. In an alternate embodiment, the expanded graphite is sprinkled into the polymeric resin using an SMC-like process.

摘要: A method for creating a tangible item (such as an “A” pillar garnishment 18) which increases the capacity of the item to absorb energy by the incorporation and/or addition of a plurality of adhesive-covered beads 25, and which utilizes the method and/or type of energy used to normally form the item to incorporate and/or add the adhesive-covered beads 25, thereby increasing efficiency while reducing cost. A new and novel tangible item, such as “A” pillar garnishment 18, having programmed energy absorption characteristics is also disclosed.

摘要: A solid surface sheet includes visible, elongated, shredded cuttings uniformly distributed throughout a matrix wherein the cuttings and the matrix have substantially the same specific weight and wherein a majority of the cuttings are substantially elongated. Related methods are also disclosed including shredding a first mix while in a gel state, curing the cuttings, sorting by size, and using as a filler in a base material to form a blend having a unique appearance and high internal strength. The preferred material is polyester or acrylic. The solid surface sheet can be used as a countertop, floor or wall panel, furniture, and in similar applications.
