Abstract: A seat trim cover for an automotive seat is formed into a 3-dimensional shape by compression molding a laminated moldable foam in a 3-dimensional. The laminated moldable foam comprises at least a layer of cellular polyurethane foam compression moldable in a temperature range of about 220° F. to about 260° F. The 3-dimensional mold is heated to a temperature range of about 150° F. to about 320° F. The layer of cellular foam is adhered to a cover material layer and precut into a pre-laminated blank prior to molding into the 3-dimensional shape. Optionally, seat heaters or other components can be integrated with the laminated foam prior to compression molding the seat trim cover.

Abstract: Provided are recyclable liner, panel or components which contain a vertically lapped polymer material constructed from at least vertically lapped first polymer fibers, wherein the vertically lapped polymer material includes a first surface and a second surface; and optionally at least one sheet of a same polymer or a compatible polymer to the vertically lapped first polymer fibers adhered to at least one of the first surface and the second surface of the vertically lapped polymer material. At least one of the first surface and the second surface of the vertically lapped polymer material is molded to include one or more structural features that project from the first surface and/or the second surface so that the vertically lapped polymer material with the adhered sheet has a three dimensional configuration. Methods for manufacturing the recyclable liner, panel or components are also provided.

Abstract: A composite of metal and carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic according to the present invention comprising a predetermined metal member, a resin layer positioned at a surface of at least part of the metal member and containing an inorganic filler having a thermal conductivity of 20 W/(m·K) or more, and carbon fiber reinforced plastic positioned on the resin layer and containing a predetermined matrix resin and carbon reinforcing fiber present in the matrix resin, the carbon reinforcing fiber being at least one of pitch-based carbon reinforcing fiber having a thermal conductivity of 180 to 900 W/(m·K) in range or PAN-based carbon reinforcing fiber having a thermal conductivity of 100 to 200 W/(m·K) in range, a content of the inorganic filler in the resin layer being 10 to 45 vol % in range with respect to a total volume of the resin layer, a number density of the inorganic filler present in a region of a width X μm from an interface of the resin layer and the carbon fiber reinforced plastic in a direction of the resin layer being 300/mm2 or more, where X μm is an average particle size of the inorganic filler.

Abstract: A method for generating a pattern of indentations in a surface of a thermoplastic textile includes processing the thermoplastic textile with a mold comprising at least one subunit adapted to create at least one subpattern of the pattern, wherein the at least one subunit is at least one of exchangeable or reconfigurable; fusing at least one indentation of the pattern of indentations into the thermoplastic textile by applying heat and pressure; and exchanging the at least one subunit with a second at least one subunit or reconfiguring a spatial arrangement of a footprint of the at least one subunit within the mold from a first spatial arrangement to a second spatial arrangement, wherein a footprint of the at least one subunit is different than a footprint of the second at least one subunit.

Abstract: Multicolored flexible wearables include a first portion having a first flexible polymer forming a toroid and including colorant(s), an exposed first outer surface, an exposed second outer surface, and a recess in the first outer surface not reaching the second outer surface. A second portion formed of a second flexible polymer fills a majority of the recess and includes colorant(s). The first and second flexible polymers have different colors and are permanently bonded together. Precious material particles may be disposed within the first and/or second flexible polymers. One or more of the colorants may have a color matching a color of the precious material particles. One method of bonding the portions includes depositing a liquid second portion into the recess and then curing it. Another method includes depositing a solid second portion into the recess and then curing a liquid layer of polymer between the first portion and second portion.

Abstract: A composite foam article is disclosed herein. The composite foam article comprises a polyurethane foam core presenting a first surface and a second surface facing opposite the first surface. A first skin is disposed on the first surface and a second skin is disposed on the second surface. The polyurethane foam core has a density of 15-80 kg/m3. The first and second skins comprise a plurality of fibers and a polymeric binder. The composite foam article has a weight per unit area of 500-1000 g/m2 and a strength of greater than 17 N at a post-compression thickness of greater than 2 mm when tested in according with SAE J949 at 23° C.

Abstract: A method for creating a fan cowl with a hollow hat stiffener includes pressing a resin film between a non-crimp fabric (NCF) and a release poly-film to create a resin-fabric sheet. The method further includes cutting the resin-fabric sheet to a pre-determined shape to create at least one of a first resin-fabric preform, a second resin-fabric preform, and a third resin-fabric preform, draping at least the first resin-fabric preform over a tool to create an outer layer of the fan cowl, setting a mandrel over the outer layer, and draping the second resin-fabric preform over at least a portion of the mandrel and at least a portion of the first resin-fabric preform to form the hollow hat stiffener having a geometry similar to a shape of the mandrel.
