The method further includes determining a temperature of a surface of the laminate proximate to the path and varying at least one of an amplitude of the ultrasonic vibration, the applied force, a feed rate at which the force and the ultrasonic vibration are applied along the path, an angle at which the ultrasonic vibration is applied to the laminate, and an interval at which plies of the laminate are processed, based upon the determined temperature of the surface of the laminate.

The composites comprise first and second type fibres, respectively, as well as resin. The connection comprises a transition zone (52) between the composites (10, 12) having a layered structure. The transition zone may optionally comprise a transition member and the transition member may optionally be integrated with one or more of the composites. Examples of non-compatible properties where the present connection will be appreciated are great differences in stiffness, e.g. Young's modulus, or in coefficient of thermal expansion.

A method of adhering a vulcanized rubber composition of the present invention is a method of adhering a vulcanized rubber composition using a thermoplastic elastomer composition. The thermoplastic elastomer composition contains a thermoplastic elastomer and a filler. The thermoplastic elastomer has: a monomer unit forming a rubber component of the vulcanized rubber composition on at least part of its main chain; and a side chain containing a structure represented by a predetermined structural formula, the structure having a carbonyl group and an imino group, and/or a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring. The method includes adhering a first member and a second member each composed of the vulcanized rubber composition through the thermoplastic elastomer composition.

A process for the continuous preparation of non-expanded honeycomb core from non-precorrugated web involves the progressive corrugation and consolidation of web by a corrugating/consolidating unit containing corrugating and consolidating elongate teeth which traverses a bed unit containing sets of former bars, forming a half cell height of honeycomb at each pass. A plurality of node-antinode demes of the topmost half cell layer being formed are consolidated while new corrugations and associated node-antinode demes are being formed. The process allows for more lengthy consolidation time, a smaller temperature differential between consolidating teeth and the node-antinode demes being consolidated, and further allows the corrugating and consolidation temperatures to be substantially independent of each other. The process may be implemented through use of a corrugating/consolidation unit having a travelling belt containing corrugating and/or consolidating teeth which may be individually and selectively heated. The process and apparatus allows production of honeycomb even from thin thermoplastic web materials at high production rates. In a preferred embodiment, the teeth are radiant energy transmissive teeth associated with a source of radiant energy directed through the teeth toward the bottom, node-antinode contacting face.

A method is shown for forming a spark plug boot having at least one internal shoulder. An outer tube is first formed of an elastomeric material having an internal bore and a selected length. An inner tube, also formed of an elastomeric material, is inserted within the bore of the outer tube. The inner tube has an external diameter selected to allow it to be slideably received within the bore of the outer tube and has a length which is less than the length of the outer tube. The inner and outer tubes thus assembled are then exposed to electromagnetic radiation for a time sufficient to bond the external diameter of the inner tube to the internal bore of the outer tube.
