    摘要: The invention relates to an enclosure with a substantial rectangular configuration, adapted to contain an apparatus sensitive to acoustic vibrations, the enclosure comprising walls and acoustic damping material located within the wall, wherein the acoustic damping material comprises at least one absorbing body of acoustic energy absorbing material located adjacent to a rib of the enclosure. The acoustic vibrations most disturbing the processes in the apparatus within the enclosure are caused by standing acoustic waves within the enclosure with frequencies in the range between 50 Hz and 1000 Hz. These acoustic waves are efficiently damped by the provision of a block of acoustic absorbing material adjacent to one of the ribs of the enclosure, to such an extent that the need for thick walls of the enclosure is substantially obviated, leading to a less voluminous enclosure.

    摘要: A carbonaceous material is removed using a low energy focused ion beam in the presence of an etch-assisting gas. Applicant has discovered that when the beam energy of the FIB is lowered, an etch-assisting gas, such as O2, greatly increases the etch rate. In one example, polyimide material etched using a Xe+ plasma FIB with a beam energy from 8 keV to 14 keV and O2 as an etch-assisting gas, the increase in etch rate can approach 30× as compared to the default mill rate.

    摘要: A method is provided, along with a corresponding apparatus, for filling a high aspect ratio hole without voids or for producing high aspect ratio structures without voids. A beam having a diameter smaller than the diameter of the hole is directed into the hole to induced deposition beginning in the center region of the hole bottom. After an elongated structure is formed in the hole by the beam-induced deposition, a beam can then be scanned in a pattern at least as large as the hole diameter to fill the remainder of the hole. The high aspect ratio hole can then be cross-sectioned using an ion beam for observation without creating artefacts. When electron-beam-induced deposition is used, the electrons preferably have a high energy to reach the bottom of the hole, and the beam has a low current, to reduce spurious deposition by beam tails.
