    摘要: Described is a method for preparing a water-swellable, substantially water-insoluble material. The method involves forming a first solution containing a water-soluble phycocolloid. The first solution is then added to a second solution containing an ion capable of rendering the water-soluble phycocolloid substantially water insoluble. The phycocolloid material is then removed from the second solution and subjected to a solvent exchange to remove water present in the phycocolloid material. Hollow particles can be formed by including a gelation-retarding agent in the first solution. Also described is a water-swellable, substantially water-insoluble particle defining an interior void. The particle comprises an outer shell formed from a water-insoluble phycocolloid. The outer shell defines an interior void which contains a phycocolloid.

    摘要: There are provided magnetic and non-magnetic agarose and agar polyaldehyde beads with diameters ranging from 40 microns up to 1 cm, and processes for the synthesis of such beads. The polyaldehyde compounds e.g. polyacrolein, polymethacrolein or polyglutaraldehyde, were used as microspheres or as powders. The agarose-polyaldehyde beads are capable of covalently binding in a single step, through their aldehyde groups, compounds containing primary amino groups of thiol groups, such as proteins, antibodies, enzymes and drugs. The beads are useful for various biological applications e.g. affinity chromatography, hemoperfusion, ion exchange resins, cell labeling, diagnostic purposes and cell separation.

    摘要: Dried agarose or gelose-containing films which are rehydratable into aqueous gel films are disclosed. The dried films are prepared by first forming, on a support, an aqueous gel film containing at most 5% by weight of agarose or gelose and a water-soluble linear polymer or copolymer of acrylamide or methacrylamide. The viscosity of such polymer and copolymer in a 5% aqueous solution at 22.degree. C is about 17000 centipoises or less and preferably about 6000 centipoises or less. The aqueous gel film is then dried according to known techniques, with the linear polymer or copolymer of acrylamide or methacrylamide being included in the dried film.
